Job Description

The Instructional Designer II works as part of a team to design, redesign, develop, and maintain high quality, technology-mediated distance education, technology-mediated, and active-collaborative courses (i.e. inverted/flipped, blended/hybrid, online/distance education, etc.) Instructional development responsibilities include: working with subject matter experts in the planning and scheduling of the design and development of a course; monitoring the course development process to meet deadlines; following quality assurance frameworks and best practices in the design and development process; identify and implementing innovative technologies to achieve the student learning outcomes.
Work with faculty to apply principles of instructional design and integrate appropriate technologies to create pedagogically/andragogically innovative teaching methods for undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as serve as an expert user of instructional technology applications implemented at the University and within the college of engineering (i.e. the learning management system, web conferencing platforms, audience response systems, online homework platforms, and learning analytic systems, etc.). Stay abreast with emerging pedagogically innovative teaching methods to design and conduct trainings on technology and innovative pedagogy/andragogy trainings for faculty, staff, and students. Provide technical support for instructional technology services and products. Participate in committee and assist with special events and projects as needed and other duties as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience

Two years of related experience in instructional design.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a STEM related field (STEM or STEM education).

Preferred Experience

5 or more years of related instructional design and technology experience with 3 years minimum design experience in engineering remote learning courses (distance education/ online, blended/hybrid, inverted/flipped, etc.) and assessment of these courses.

Fluency in distance education technologies, learning management systems, web conferencing platforms, audience response systems, online homework platforms, and learning analytic systems. Experience with software such as Camtasia, Echo360, Microsoft Mix, SoftChalk, Articulate to name a few. Experience in providing user support in various instructional technologies and conducting training and workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
