Job Description

The job involves experimentally studying the thermodynamic and fluid dynamic behavior of isolated droplets of liquid hydrocarbon fuels, such as vaporization of single and multi-component droplets, droplet coalescence, charged droplets, secondary atomization, laser droplet heating and plasma-droplet interactions. A new high-pressure electrodynamic balance device will be built to undertake listed studies.
The postdoc’s role will be as a scholar within the Aerospace Engineering department, interacting with faculty, staff and students, advancing science and engineering, and contributing to the academic environment of the university. Support undergraduate and graduate students in their academic efforts and advance their development as scholars.

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.

Preferred Experience

Significant experience with experimental studies of droplet evaporation, droplet combustion, supercritical fluids or related subjects. Experience with design, construction, testing and use of instrumented high pressure and/or high temperature vessels is desirable. Experience with electrodynamic balance devices is advantageous but not required.
Experience or knowledge of computer aided design and simulation, fabrication, electronic measurement and control, lasers and optics, data analysis.
