Job Description

The TEES Turbomachinery Laboratory (TL) conducts basic and applied research into problems of reliability and performance of turbomachinery and provide opportunity for collaborative research among faculty members in the area of turbomachinery and related technologies.
The Turbomachinery Laboratory also conducts workforce development in the field, notably through large industrial symposia that provide continuing education opportunities to users of industrial turbomachinery and generate funds to foster and support graduate and undergraduate education in turbomachinery, and mechanical engineering in general. In addition, the Turbomachinery Laboratory offers intensive short courses on topics relevant to today’s professionals in the turbomachinery and pump industries.
Significant faculty-led research at TL is supported by the Turbomachinery Research Consortium (TRC). The TRC is made up of turbomachinery users and manufacturers and addresses performance and reliability problems of turbomachinery as well as enhancing the continuing comprehensive educational program related to turbomachinery at Texas A&M.
All TEES centers, including TL, work in support of the TEES mission and goals of collaborative, multidisciplinary R&D, workforce development, and technology commercialization.
The Director, TEES Turbomachinery Laboratory develops, directs and implements TL’s R&D, workforce development, and technology commercialization objectives and initiatives in accordance with the TEES mission and goals. The director ensures that TL’s activities will establish, maintain and increase the center’s competitive position and sustainability. The Director fosters collaboration and opportunity between faculty, researchers and centers within TEES, the College of Engineering, Texas A&M University System, government, industry, and other organizations. The Director works in close collaboration with the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department to align goals and outcomes and must hold credentials that allow appointment to the engineering faculty. The Director is expected to maintain current sponsor relationships as well as develop new relationships in new market areas. The Director is expected to foster and provide leadership in expanding the R&D portfolio, workforce development, and technology commercialization activities of TL. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
The Director is expected to supervise the organization of symposia and continuing-education activities.
The Director chairs and supports major industrial advisory committees both for organizing symposia and for research.
The Director, TEES Turbomachinery Laboratory reports to the Assistant Agency Director for Strategic Initiatives and Centers.
